AutoCAD for MAC vs PC So I am currently giving a training course for AutoCAD for MAC and boy has it been a ride. I have been helping the wife with her MAC and technical issues so how hard could it be. Well, let me tell you So the first thing I noticed when installing the AutoCAD on a MAC is that is extremely quick to install and also that it seems to be an app on the MAC. We initially had trouble with the install so we had to uninstall and put service packs on and it works!!! Now the interface. A PC is a much better fit for him than a Mac would be - that's like these people that buy Suburbans and drive by themselves all the time. My advice is Lenovo or Dell (Latitude, or Precision if he wants to drop that kind of coin). Yes you can open older version PC drawings on it. I have 2011 on my Mac and 2010 on PC and it has had no problem with transferring drawings form the PC to Mac. The file extension is DWG. This is pretty much the same program the only difference is that it is on Mac. Whatever you can do on the PC with AutoCAD you can do in the Mac version. Os x sierra 2017. MacOS Sierra (version 10.12) is the thirteenth major release of macOS (previously OS X), Apple Inc.' S desktop and server operating system for Macintosh computers. The successor to OS X El Capitan, it was the first version of the operating system issued under the June 2016 rebranding as macOS. It looks like the drop-down menu interface of the AutoCAD of old. So no problem. Nope, there was a problem, because I haven’t used the older AutoCAD in a while so it was a little bumpy at first but I soon got into my stride and when I got stuck looking for an icon (you guessed it) the handy old shortcut keys came into play. It was exactly the same learning curve that I had to do when the ribbon menu came out. It saved my life. Some of the buttons are a bit small and because it was such a big screen with a really high resolution (but yet again so pretty) it was a bit difficult seeing the icons but who needs icons when you have shortcut keys. So we imported some drawings, setup some layers (which is also a little different) and got to print in monochrome (after a few tries). What I would like to do over the next few weeks is show you the differences in setting up a template in AutoCAD for MAC and you can make a decision as a MAC user if it is maybe the way to go. VIVA LA MAC!!! Life is full of great debates: vanilla vs. Chocolate, coffee vs. Tea, pancakes vs. Waffles, dogs vs. Cats—you get the idea. As for computer users, one of the greatest debates that’s been raging since the mid-1980s is which PC platform is best, Mac or Windows. While both sides in all the aforementioned debates are usually equally as passionate as the other, the answer always comes down to individual preference. So, no matter what side you’re on, you win. You get to choose what is best for you, no matter the reason for that choice. For CAD users, however, the answer has not been as cut and dry as choosing based on personal preference. Not every CAD program is available on both Mac and Windows platforms. This means you either stick with your platform of choice, which limits your software choice, or be forced to pick a platform you may not be familiar with to use the software of your choice. That’s not a win/win. For Mac and AutoCAD users, the world just got a lot bigger in terms of choices. Earlier this week,. It’s been over a year since the PC version of AutoCAD was ported to the Mac, and the Autodesk team has made many improvements and enhancements for the Mac platform. Mac users desiring AutoCAD as their CAD software choice can now work with familiar hardware, software and workflows. That’s a big deal when you consider there are 170-plus million users of Autodesk applications worldwide and, according to, 588 million Apple users worldwide. Albeit the Apple users aren’t all using PCs and the Autodesk users aren’t all using AutoCAD, you can see we’re still talking about very big numbers. Will it be enough to tip the market share in Autodesk’s favor or is it too little too late? In comparison, CAD software,, has been available to Mac users since it was released as MiniCad 1 back in 1985.
